In 1981, it was Queen Ingrid who inaugurated the property as a camp school for children from Southern Jutland. According to the Queen’s wish, the place was to bear the name “I.P. Nielsen Home for Southern Jutland children” as a memory of the institution’s founder, who was also a good friend of the royal family. The following 25 years were “I.P. History
The beautiful villa was originally built in 1900 for use as a summer residence by merchant Kloppenburg from Hamburg. 38 years later, the “Association for Southern Jutland war-damaged and survivors of the fallen” acquired the property and converted it into a recreation home. In 2028, it will be 90 years since King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine took part in the inauguration of what was to become an ideal place for war veterans to find peace and quiet for the next 40 years.

The house was home to Restaurant Bind from 2007-2024, run by chef Christian Bind in the kitchen and his wife Pia in the restaurant. In 2008 the extension was added, including the annex, the existing kitchen and cellar to the Villa, blending the traditional with the contemporary. In 2023, the house was purchased by Anne Sofie Rolner Reese. Shortly after Christian and Pia announced their retirement at the close of 2024. After undergoing extensive renovations including the facades, windows, roof, terrace, kitchen, bar, restaurant and cellar, Pearl by Paul Proffitt will open its doors in March 2025.
When the house was sold in 2006, the money was used as capital for the foundation of “I.P. The Nielsen Foundation in memory of Queen Ingrid”, which supports projects where emphasis is placed on experiences and learning, supporting children and young people’s South Jutland identity in a globalized world, and developing their social skills. On 4 August 2010, Princess Benedikte, as patron of the foundation, distributed grants to children and young people in Southern Jutland at Fjordvejen 120.
